Nico Rosberg won the 2016 Formula 1 world championship with Mercedes. He has spent a week letting a Tesla Cybertruck drive him around San Francisco, and he's a convert. In a LinkedIn post shared on 30 October, the Rosberg Ventures founder wrote that testing the Cybertruck with Full Self-Driving (Supervised) between back-to-back founder meetings had been "LIFE-CHANGING!"
What Rosberg wrote
As quoted from his post: "My scarcest resource currently is time." By the evening, he wrote, "it actually felt like I'd won back half a working day!!", and he "even had a mini date with my wife on the drive". The line that got the most attention: "My whole racing career, I was the one in control behind the wheel. But I'm now fully willing to hand over control!!"
He was also clear about the limits. The truck is "still supervised, which means eyes on the road", and he wrote that "In Europe, we're still way behind on this tech. And we for sure need to move faster!!" He also cited Tesla's figure that 75% of new Teslas delivered in North America last quarter came with FSD.
Tesla picked it up
Tesla's official account shared the story with the caption "Even the world's best drivers like being driven". Rosberg replied asking for another drive:

Sometimes they even like to fly. Next up: testing the Roadster, @elonmusk ? 😅

Investor Steve Jurvetson, a long-time Tesla backer, joined the replies. He said Rosberg "has moved to SF" and argued that FSD's attach rate will "trend to 100%". Social posts say the truck was Jurvetson's, but we haven't seen Rosberg or Jurvetson confirm that, so we're not reporting it as fact.
The Australian angle
Australians can already use the software Rosberg used, though not in a Cybertruck. FSD (Supervised) launched for Model 3 and Model Y owners in Australia and New Zealand in September 2025. Tesla told a Senate inquiry this month that local cars have since covered more than 160 million km with it switched on (see our report on Tesla's submission). It's a driver-assistance system: the driver must supervise at all times, just as Rosberg notes.
The Cybertruck itself won't be sold here. Tesla cancelled it for Australia and New Zealand this month and refunded reservation holders (our report).
If you want to try FSD (Supervised) in a Model 3 or Model Y, our Tesla referral link may give you a purchase benefit. Disclosure: EV Select may receive a referral reward.
