MG quotes Manufacturer's Recommended Driveaway Prices (MRDP), which include 12 months' registration and CTP, dealer delivery and estimated stamp duty. The October offer takes $2,000 off for cars sold and delivered between 1 and 31 October 2026. MG doesn't publish a list price before on-roads, so we bracket the car by its MRDP.

Battery and range

The Essence 62 has a 62 kWh LFP battery and one 150 kW / 350 Nm rear motor, and MG quotes 0–100 km/h in 7.0 s. The MY26 brochure gives 450 km WLTP. MG's older launch microsite still shows 425 km, so make sure any quote you get is for the current model.

Highway range tests

Bjørn Nyland, 120 km/h and Out of Spec Reviews, 70 mph: we haven't found a published test of the S5 EV with the 62 kWh battery, so there is no verified highway figure.

A 6.6 kW onboard charger makes a full charge at home slow. If you have three-phase power at home, the extra capacity won't help this car.

Warranty and servicing

7 years, unlimited km as standard, plus a 3-year MG service-activated extension, up to 10 years or 250,000 km in total if you service with MG. Servicing is under MG's Precise Price program, which lists a fixed price per scheduled service. MG's brochure doesn't state the length of the separate high-voltage battery warranty, and we couldn't confirm it on MG's warranty page, so check it with the dealer.

Safety (ANCAP)

Five stars (2025 rating, all Australian variants built from March 2025): adult occupant 90%, child occupant 86%, vulnerable road users 82%, safety assist 79%.

Rivals to compare

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Good fit: budget-focused buyers who want a mid-size electric SUV with a 450 km WLTP range, a five-star rating and a long service-linked warranty, for under $47,000 drive-away.

Look elsewhere if: you tow more than 750 kg, charge mostly on fast AC at home, or want an independent highway-range figure first.
