Tesla's stretched, six-seat Model Y is the longest-range car in its showroom. Here is what $74,900 buys, what the tests show, and who it suits.

Price and trims

There is one Model Y L in Australia: the Premium Long Range AWD, with six seats in three rows. It is listed at $74,900 before on-road costs. It sits above the five-seat Model Y range rather than replacing it.

Model Y variantSeatsList price (before on-roads)WLTP range
Premium RWD5$58,900466 km
Premium Long Range AWD5$68,900600 km
L Premium Long Range AWD6$74,900681 km

That makes the L $6,000 more than the five-seat Long Range AWD. On the spec sheet the extra money buys a third row, 177 mm more length and 81 km more WLTP range. Tesla doesn't publish fixed drive-away prices. Its order page estimates one for your postcode, so check that before you compare it with a dealer quote on another brand.

Battery and range

Tesla quotes 681 km WLTP for the Model Y L, the highest figure for any Tesla sold here. It doesn't publish battery capacity, so we don't list one. 0–100 km/h takes 4.5 seconds and kerb weight is 2,088 kg.

Highway range tests

Out of Spec Reviews, 70 mph (113 km/h): 512 km. This was a US-market Model Y L AWD on optional 20-inch wheels (Australian cars get 19s), driven on a North Carolina route rather than the outfit's usual Colorado loop. Smaller wheels usually help efficiency, so an Australian car may do slightly better, but this isn't an exact spec match.

Bjørn Nyland, 120 km/h: no Model Y L test is in his published results yet, so we can't give a 120 km/h figure. Don't reuse the five-seat Model Y's results here: it's a longer, heavier body.

Charging

Peak Supercharging is 250 kW, and Tesla quotes up to 288 km added in 15 minutes, based on efficiency at a constant 100 km/h. Tesla doesn't publish a 10–80% time for the L, so we leave that blank rather than estimate it. The car also supports Tesla's Outlet Adapter for running appliances from the battery.

The second-row captain's chairs have heating, ventilation, powered armrests and one-touch folding, and the third row gets power recline and its own vents. Tesla quotes total storage of 2,539 litres but no seats-up boot figure, so measure your pram or luggage against a display car.

Warranty and servicing

Basic vehicle warranty is 5 years, unlimited km, for new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles delivered from 1 January 2026. The battery and drive unit are covered for 8 years or 192,000 km, whichever comes first. We couldn't find a capped-price servicing schedule on Tesla Australia's site.

Safety (ANCAP)

The Model Y L has its own five-star ANCAP rating, separate from the five-seat Model Y. It applies to cars built from February 2026. Scores: adult occupant 91%, child occupant 84%, vulnerable road users 86%, safety assist 92%. ANCAP notes that fitting child restraints in rows two and three can be awkward, especially top-tether routing and ISOFIX access, so try your own seats in the car.

Rivals to compare

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Good fit: families who regularly carry five or six, people who drive long distances and want the longest WLTP range Tesla sells here, and buyers already committed to the Supercharger network.

Look elsewhere if: you need a published towing rating, you need three child seats across one row (it has captain's chairs, not a bench), or four seats are enough. The five-seat Long Range AWD is $6,000 cheaper.
