Tesla's order page estimates a drive-away price for your postcode. There are no dealer discounts or end-of-month offers. The step up to the Long Range AWD costs $10,000 and adds 134 km of WLTP range, a second motor and faster peak charging.

Battery and range

WLTP range is 466 km and kerb weight is 1,921 kg. Tesla doesn't publish battery capacity, so we don't list one.

Highway range tests

Bjørn Nyland, 120 km/h and Out of Spec Reviews, 70 mph: we haven't found a test matched to the current Australian Model Y RWD's battery. Both have tested the updated Long Range AWD (Bjørn 371 km at 11°C on winter tyres; Out of Spec 476 km with 19-inch wheels). That car has a larger battery, so don't apply those figures to the RWD.

Charging

Peak Supercharging is 175 kW (the Long Range takes 250 kW). Tesla quotes up to 238 km added in 15 minutes, based on efficiency at a constant 100 km/h. It doesn't publish a 10–80% time.

The second row has power recline and folds flat, and the tailgate is hands-free. Tesla quotes total storage, not a seats-up boot figure.

Warranty and servicing

Basic warranty is 5 years, unlimited km for cars delivered from 1 January 2026. The battery and drive unit are covered for 8 years or 160,000 km on the RWD, versus 192,000 km on the Long Range. We couldn't find a capped-price servicing schedule on Tesla Australia's site.

Safety (ANCAP)

Five stars (2025 rating) for five-seat Model Ys built from February 2025: adult occupant 91%, child occupant 95%, vulnerable road users 86%, safety assist 92%. The rating doesn't cover the Model Y L, which has its own.

Rivals to compare

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Good fit: buyers who want Tesla's software and Supercharger network at the lowest Model Y price, mostly drive around town, and can charge at home.

Look elsewhere if: you often drive long distances on the highway (the Long Range's extra range and 250 kW charging help), or you need a published towing rating.
